Be Part of Building Cambodia’s Future

This is an important time in Cambodia’s history. Continued economic prosperity combined with a period of relative peace in our country has created opportunity for many Cambodians and has allowed the Royal Government of Cambodia to create programs that are aligned with the country’s Millennium Development Goals.

The discovery of oil, gas and mining natural resources in Cambodia promises additional economic opportunities while raising important environmental and socio-economic questions. The government faces key questions about these new business sectors: how licenses are granted to extract oil, gas and precious metals; how revenues received from these industries will be reported to the public, and how these revenues will be invested and saved for the betterment of future Cambodian generations.

As members of Cambodian society, it is vital that you inform yourself on the latest news that will affect your village, commune, district and province.

Cambodians for Resource Revenue Transparency (CRRT) is a coalition of concerned non-governmental organizations and members of civil society who are working in consultation with the government to create fair, equitable and long-term plans to share information about oil, gas and mining enterprise in Cambodia. As our name implies, CRRT embraces and endorses the concept of complete transparency with regards to the development of the extractives industries in Cambodia as the best means to fairly involve Cambodians in this unprecedented period in our country’s history.

Organizations can join CRRT either as a Full Member or as an Associate Member:
Note: Individual is also accepted to be part as an associate member.

1. Why become a CRRT member?

Natural resource extraction in Cambodia has reached a critical crossroads: although the country has already experienced decades of mining, the Royal Government of Cambodia has recently awarded an unprecedented amount of licenses to foreign energy companies–for exploration and exploitation rights to more than (estimated number of acres/sq kilometers) of Cambodia’s most productive agricultural lands.  In 2009, oil and gas exploration is well underway in Cambodia, and the Royal Government predicts it will be taking in substantial revenues from these extractive industries by 2011.  By becoming a member of CRRT today, your organization will gain a valuable opportunity to understand the nature of the extractive industries sector—both nationally and internationally—in time to make a difference for the Cambodian people.

We invite you to take part in the critical dialogue about extractive industries in Cambodia.  As a member of CRRT, you will be joining international and local NGOs who are committed to working together toward two shared goals: 1) Transparency for all resource revenues obtained from the extractive industries in Cambodia; 2) Socially responsible management of wealth generated from the oil, gas, and mining industries—for smart investment, development, and infrastructure improvement within Cambodia.  If you share our vision of making resource revenues transparent to all Cambodians, please consider becoming a member of CRRT today.
