Summary:
Cambodian officials are in the US for a ten day trip organized by US Trade and Development Agency. The team is travelling to Washington DC, New Orleans and Houston where they meet oil company and government representatives. One of the firms hosting is Chevron.
“They’re meeting with public and private sector expert to look at best practices relating to resource exploration and management,” said john Johnson, spokesman for the US Embassy in PP.
Note that in November last year, the RGOC complained that Chevron was playing a waiting game (delayed its production) due to the oil price plummet and due to the failure to reach tax agreement (Cambodia has no tax law on oil gas and mining). Ou Vichet, vice chairman of CNPA, was quoted as saying “Cambodians are ready to begin oil production.” Chevron still argued that more work needed to be done to solve the problem.
